Batswana have been urged to save the country by voting Botswana Congress Party (BCP) into power on 30 October.
Different speakers said the BCP was the only party that had proven to be ready to form a government and encouraged members of the public to continue canvassing for votes to oust the ruling party.
They made the appeal during the launch of Maun North parliamentary candidate, Mr Dumelang Saleshando and his council candidates on Saturday.
Speakers urged voters to support Mr Saleshando, who is also BCP president, describing him as an intelligent leader who is ready to take on the duties of the presidency.
They said he demonstrated his debating skills during the recent presidential debate, and that Batswana have rated him as the best candidate for the presidency. They said he articulated issues of the economy, education and health well and that he should be applauded.
BCP vice president, Mr Taolo Lucas called on voters to take Mr Saleshando to the State House, saying he was ready to transform the country if given the chance to lead. He also pleaded with young people to take responsibility and exercise their right to vote, saying the majority were unemployed and that his party prioritised job creation.
BCP parliamentary candidate for Gaborone Central, Dr Mpho Pheko concurred that the youth constituted a large section of the population and that they should vote in large numbers.
She said the BCP was committed to transforming the country into a thriving economy with jobs that empowered and uplifted people’s lives. Furthermore, Dr Pheko said Mr Saleshando was ready to lead and address challenges faced by Batswana.
She added that Mr Saleshando had dedicated his life to advancing a vision where prosperity was accessible to all.
The BCP, she said, was the only party with quality leadership and qualified candidates that could run government effectively.
Maun East parliamentary candidate, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile said Mr Saleshando was a politician of integrity, adding that he was also tried and tested after 30 years in politics. He said he set a good record from a young age while still a student at the University of Botswana.
During his tenure as MP for Maun West, Mr Kekgonegile said Mr Saleshando had advocated for developments such as the construction of internal roads and urged voters to give him a second chance. The BCP, he said, also advocated for access to quality healthcare for all and access to emergency and specialised health care for every Motswana.
For his part, Mr Saleshando said his party was committed to bring change, save the country and urged Batswana to vote him and all BCP candidates on Wednesday. He said he was committed to social democracy and good governance, adding that they advocated for a fair economic system that benefitted all.
“I appeal to Batswana to vote for me and my party candidates because we are ready to unlock a better future for you,” he added,
He said he was confident that his party would win 31 constituencies. BCP won all Ngami constituencies in 2019. Ends
