UDC vows to create equitable diversifyeconomy

Presidential candidate for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), Advocate Duma Boko has underlined the party’s commitment to create an equitable and diversified economy if voted in governance in the upcoming general election.

Speaking at the launch of Gaborone Bonnington North UDC parliamentary candidate, Ms Maipelo Mophuting on Wednesday, Adv. Boko said the UDC was committed to adopt a new economic strategy that diversified the economy and grew its sustainability above the 10 per cent Gross domestic Product per annum.

He said Botswana needed an economy with capacity for sustainable employ and generate high paying jobs for an existing and increasingly youthful workforce.

“As clearly outlined in our manifesto, we are hopeful to modern infrastructure, digitised and green economic processes and projects to ensure economic diversification adoption of sustainable green economy which will create jobs for Botswana,” he said.

He talked about the UDC’s desire to invest in the manufacturing sector on, clothing, textile, leather and footwear value-chain, noting that the UDC led government would work with the private sector to develop a plan to resuscitate the sector by promoting manufacturing of school, prisons, police and army uniforms in Botswana.

Adv. Boko said if voted into power, the UDC government would review the current policy, programmes and facilities on vocational training and align them with the requirements of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the demand for skills in the market.

He stated that the UDC was also committed to protecting domestic industries under relevant trade provisions to spur up domestic demand, which would increase job opportunities.

“The UDC manifesto also highlights our commitment to establish a comprehensive mental health system and ensure quality Ante and Post-natal care that will ensure that both the mother and child are provided for from the beginning,” he said.

Adv. Boko pleaded with voters to familiarise themselves with the UDC manifesto as it was the hope for a new Botswana and was expected to completely change the local political landscape and address bread and butter issues that affected an ordinary Motswana.

“It is the UDC’s desire to realistically transform and empower the livelihoods of Batswana for good and our manifesto presents hope for the hopeless in their drive to restore some long lost dignity and pride in the lives of many Batswana,” he said.

Consequently, Adv. Boko hailed UDC Gaborone Bonnington North parliamentary candidate as visionary leader with merits to contribute towards the country’s and constituents interests.

He therefore, said it was only fitting for the constituents to ensure that they voted for Ms Mophuting and the UDC to Parliament in the next general election.

For her part, Ms Mophuting underscored her readiness to contribute towards the betterment of her constituency.  Ends
