Masisi praises residents for patience
27 Oct 2024
The saying ‘Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet’ by Greek philosopher and Polymath Aristotle resonates with the people of Nhabe who have had to patiently wait for projects to be delivered in their area.
To this end, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi waxed lyrical during a kgotla meeting in Maun on Friday about Maun residents for this socially desirable trait that had finally seen an unprecedented influx of developments spring up in the area.
Both Kgosi Tawana Moremi II and VDC Chairperson Ms Kegomoditswe Ndulamo attested that indeed record developments among them; infrastructural developments such as roads, electrification, water reticulation, construction of sewage treatment plant, internal roads and many others were taking shape in earnest in Botswana’s tourism capital.
Kgosi Tawana expressed gratitude about the ongoing construction of the multi-million state-of-the-art kgotla offices.
Ms Ndulamo praised the government for its good work, citing developments such as Maun Educational Park, a water treatment plant, a Child-Friendly Centre, a state-of-the-art Special Education School, SmartBots, and countless others that have positively impacted the lives of the people of Maun.
President Masisi told residents that his government had plans to improve their lives to ensure prosperity for all by 2036.
He relayed that numerous initiatives, including Chema Chema, Temo Letlotlo, Thuo Letlotlo, Maja-A-Ikgorosa, and SmartBots, were only the tip of the iceberg in the government’s quest to transform Botswana into a high-income economy.
Emphasising government’s commitment to food security, the President made a clarion call for Batswana to take up available programmes with a view to scaling production.
He said the government was there to assist Batswana in realising their dreams and aspirations by creating an enabling environment.
The President informed the residents that government intended to ensure free high-speed Internet reached production lands. The arrival of Starlink in Botswana, thanks to the government’s steadfast drive to woo investors, will greatly stimulate the farming sector.
According to Dr Masisi, this next-generation satellite Internet service, which will offer low-latency broadband, will ensure that Batswana and the farming community experience the highest quality, reliable, affordable Internet service and that farming blossoms.
President Masisi brought along the electric vehicle his government promised in 2019, much to the crowd’s appreciation.
Most of the residents who commented appreciated developments brought into the area by the government.
He told them that electric buses were also being assembled in Gaborone and that electro-fitting, whereby the original vehicle was modified by removing its engine and transforming it into an electric car, was also taking place in Gaborone. ends
