Government to continue investing in security

Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has reiterated government’s continued support towards defence and security organs in the country. 

Speaking at the official opening of a new state-of-the-art police station in Letlhakane on Friday, which has cost over P155 million, Mr Tsogwane highlighted that government would continue to invest in security, through enhanced equipment and training of law enforcement officers in large numbers. 

“We saw recently the Minister of Defence and Security taking a deliberate decision to train and a convert a number of special constables into full police officers, a commendable and progressive move,” he said. 

The Vice President said government would continue empowering the police by investing in infrastructural development and financing the procurement of up to date modern police equipment and technologies. 

Mr Tsogwane therefore encouraged police officers to intensively conduct research on the evolving crime trends for effective curb and prevention. 

He also talked about the alarming GBV incidents in the country, urging Batswana to report to the police as early as possible. 

Minister of Health, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, commended government for the project. 

He said the state-of-the-art facility was also a face lift of Letlhakane, adding that it also elevated the value of the village or residential plots in the vicinity. Mr Lelatisitswe commended the contractor for having delivered the project in time and within budget. 

For her part, police commissioner, Ms Dinah Marathe said the idea of a new police station in Letlhakane was birthed upon the realisation that the population had outgrown the old one. 

The new facility includes  consultation rooms, identification suite, armoury, custody suite, library and sports ground among others. 

The police commissioner said sports facilities at the new police station would be open for public use. Ends
