Masisi seeks second term

24 Oct 2024

The President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has appealed to Charleshill constituents to give the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) another term to continue with the programmes in the pipeline.

He said voting for the BDP parliamentary candidate, Mr Thato Tshweneyagae and the eight council candidates would ensure effective implementation of government programmes in their constituency.

Speaking at a rally in Charleshill on Tuesday, Dr Masisi said the BDP-led government was committed to improving the agricultural sector through improving the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), liberalising the beef market and expanding the Tsabong abattoir, among others.

Dr Masisi said programmes such as Maja-A-Ikgorosa were intended to empower farmers and drive growth for the sector.

He said the objective was for these programmes to be accessible to all Batswana and not just a selected few.

He added that if re-elected, the BDP would continue with projects intended to improve water distribution across the country.

Dr Masisis said the envisioned roads infrastructure projects were expected to create job opportunities and improve the economy of the country.

He noted that his party had intentions to improve the mining sector, through the establishment of manufacturing companies to develop the mining value chain.

Dr Masisi urged Batswana to shun opposition parties and vote for BDP in the upcoming general election, which he said, was committed to improving the creative sector.

He said voting for his party would ensure that their talents were developed and subsequently be economically viable.

The President noted that the BDP-led government, which spearheaded the use of identity cards to cross borders between Botswana and Namibia, acknowledged the importance of family ties between the communities along the borders.

He said the initiative did not only promote cultural ties for those communities, but also enhanced bilateral relations between the two countries.

“You should be aware that the opposition parties are against this initiative and if you vote for them on October 30, they will not allow the use of IDs to cross borders,” he said.

Mr Tshweneyagae appreciated Dr Masisi’s respect for their culture and the support he accorded the cultural activities in the area.

He said President Masisi’s plans towards improving the agricultural sector were testament to his commitment and dedication.

Once voted, he said he would be the link between the government and the constituents to ensure Charleshill constituency was duly developed.

“After being voted on October 30, I will do my best by bringing ideas and advice from the constituents to the President and likewise take the advice and government programmes to the people in the constituency,” he said. ENDS
