Maele seeks return to Parliament

23 Oct 2024

Former Member of Parliament Mr Prince Maele has pleaded with people of Tswapong North to vote the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) in the October 30 general elections.

Mr Maele, a parliamentary candidate for Tswapong North under the UDC ticket, served as MP for the area from 2009 to 2019 under the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) before losing the 2019 general elections as an independent candidate to BDP’s Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele.

Speaking during his launch in Maunatlala recently, Mr Maele urged the people of Tswapong North to vote for UDC as the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) had failed to develop the constituency.

The constituency formerly constituted 16 villages but had now increased to 21 villages after the delimitation exercise, which incorporated the villages of Tamasane, Diloro, Kgagodi, Mogapinyana and Mogapi into Tswapong North.

Mr Maele urged his party members to avoid attacking other opposition parties and focus on removing their biggest enemy; the BDP by voting for the UDC instead.

He said other opposition parties were also fighting the same battle to unseat the BDP hence should work together to bring the BDP down.

Mr Maele accused the former area MP, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele for failing to develop the 16 villages, which constituted Lerala/Maunatlala.

“If the BDP failed to develop 16 villages how are they going to manage to develop 21 villages?” he asked rhetorically.

Mr Maele also informed the constituents that he was going to work hard to ensure implementation of all Tswapong North development projects in the National Development Plan 12.

“The 13th parliament requires a hardworking and capable parliamentarian who understands issues affecting this constituency and can perform his duties effectively,” he said.

For his part the former MP for Mahalapye West, Mr David Tshere also pleaded with Maunatlala residents and the entire Tswapong North residents to give Mr Maele a chance to represent the constituency in Parliament.

He accused the BDP of failing the people of Maunatlala in particular by failing to address challenges they faced citing the relocation of families living near Lotsane dam.

Mr Tshere added that the UDC had done everything to canvass for elections thus it was now upon the constituents to decide their future.

Former MP for Palapye Mr Onneetse Ramogapi also said UDC was the only party, which had the interests of the people at heart. The UDC, he said had a better plan to create employment for Batswana and transform their lives by introducing a living wage of P4 000 and old age pension amounting to P1 800.

“If this is the change you want vote for the UDC in the coming general elections,” he said. Ends
