The Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has urged Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituents to cast their votes in favour of the UDC on polling day.
The appeal was made by different speakers during the UDC parliamentary and council candidates launch in Jwaneng on Monday.
Presenting the candidates before the Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituents, Alliance for Progressives secretary general, Dr Phenyo Butale, said the UDC needed 31 constituencies for it to ascend to governance hence their plea for votes in the Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituency to be among the 31 cohort.
Dr Butale urged them to vote for Jwaneng/Mabutsane MP candidate, Mr Omphemetse Kwapa, and all the 19 council candidates.
He said the UDC was willing to change the lives of Batswana for better.
“We need not self-centred people but those who can fight for people’s rights and uplift their lives,” he said.
Former Member of Parliament for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile, told the constituents that Mr Kwapa possessed good qualities needed in a leader.
He described him as respectful and that his educational background was of note.
Mr Ntlhaile said they should trusted Mr Kwapa with their votes the way they did when they voted for him in 2014.
Botswana National Front Secretary for Economic Affairs, Ms Joyce Medupe, said if voted into power, it would be the UDC’s mandate to meet their promises such as employment creations, good health and improved wages.
Ms Medupe said due to Jwaneng town status, commodities at shops in the town were expensive, making life unbearable for some people. She said increasing wages at the same time would give people confidence and a healthy self-esteem.
Mr Kwapa said he was determined to serve the Jwaneng/Mabutsane constituents with passion. Ends
