Motorsport national team goes to Spain Morocco for races

22 Oct 2024

The Botswana Motor Sport (BMS) national team will participate at the 2024 Federation International Automobile (FIA) motorsport games and the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) Motorcross of African Nations (MXOAN) in Spain and Morocco respectively.

The 2024 FIA Motorsport games will start on October 22-28 with 27 categories of racing, which include GT Racing, Formula 4, Karting, Esports and Touring Cars and Rallycross.

Botswana will for the first time send a team of three riders in partnership with CYRO Motorsport Group, who will participate in the categories of Esports GT with Mosiami Bogosing, Esports F4 with Farai Munyongo and Karting Sprint Senior with Muhammad Ahmad.

The FIM MXOAN 2024 is scheduled for October 25-27 and only Lourens Erasmus will represent the country in MX Lites category.

Briefing the media recently, the president of BMS, Kagiso Modibedi said both games represent pivotal opportunities for Botswana through the BMS to showcase its sporting talent on an international stage.

He said with a combined participation in these games, Team Botswana aspires to achieve excellence, promote national pride and inspire the next generation.

Furthermore, Modibedi said through FIA, the BMS will be in a position to build a framework for the sport and attract more drivers.

The FIA qualification was done through the e-racing Ola Botswana Qualifiers Challenge, in a collaboration between the CYRO Motorsport Group and the BMS.

The initiative offered Batswana, within the country and abroad, an opportunity to race online against each other using state-of-the-art racing simulators to identify Botswana’s best gaming race drivers; showcasing the latest in technology and online connectivity in Botswana.

Ola Botswana qualifiers identified Dr Zaeem Tayob, a Motswana doctor residing in Pretoria, Bogosing and Munyongo.

However, Dr Tayob will not be able to compete and represent the country due to his unavailability on the set dates.

Meanwhile, Modibedi announced the return of the 1000km race, which will be a partnership between the BMS and CYRO Motorsport Group and the Botswana Off Road Racing Championship (BORCC) in 2025, as part of the BORCC series. Ends
