Homes do not only protect and shelter people from the outside world, they also signify a level of dignity for individuals.
Therefore, Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane encouraged the private sector to assist with building houses for the less privileged members of society across the country.
Officially handing over houses on Monday in Rakops, Mopipi and Mokoboxane, Mr Tsogwane urged Batswana to continue with the spirit of compassion they had been holding on since time immemorial. Mr Tsogwane commended Choppies, who built one house in each of the three villages, for the gesture.
He highlighted that government was committed to uplifting lives in rural communities, hence he saw it fit to solicit assistance from Choppies, to build the three-roomed houses for the less privileged in the aforementioned villages.
He said government alone could not afford to assist or provide them with shelter, hence the private sector should play a role. Mr Tsogwane implored the beneficiaries to take good care of the houses.
In Rakops, the beneficiary, Ms Opelo Nakedi, could not conceal her delight for the gift.
She said she had made a plea at the social welfare office in Rakops and was assisted accordingly eventually becoming one of the beneficiaries in Boteti West. Ms Nakedi, who is a youth, promised to take good care of the house. Ms Oraetswe Bothata of Mopipi, also thanked the Vice President and Choppies for her gift.
She said before Choppies came to the rescue, the initial structure at her home was not user-friendly under bad weather.
Ms Phenyo Chamae, who is living with disability in Mokoboxane was also handed a house.A representative from Choppies, Mr Collen Gaa highlighted that this year alone, the chainstore had used about P500 000 towards its social corporate responsibility initiative in the Boteti Region. Ends
