First Lady cycles for fun

21 Oct 2024

The First Lady, Ms Neo Masisi has said she is committed to community development, building and serving the nation through using available platforms to better people’s lives.

She said this during a fun ride cycling event in Mahalapye on Friday.

The First Lady said the event was meant to emphasise the importance of skills development, saying cycling was a vehicle that can be used to disseminate messages of critical importance to the people.

She said cycling demands training, endurance and technical skills and therefore, cycling fosters teamwork, perseverance and resilience, which are qualities that Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) instills in young people.

Furthermore, she said there is a need to support both cycling and skills training to help people reach their full potential, emphasising their commitment in one area.

She shared that the activity accorded young people an opportunity to consider TVET for both their personal and professional development.

Moreover, she said cycling was done for health purposes and sustainability, thus it promotes good health and wellness.

She added that it was a mode of transport and a clean way of moving around as it does not emit carbon monoxide that pollute the environment and frustrates greenhouse gas emissions.

Also, she said her vision was to inspire people to be foresighted about the future where TVET graduates and athletes work together for better communities to emphasise the power of cycling to build healthy and strong communities.

Mr Collen Gontse, one of the fun ride cycling event organisers and head of human resources at Botswana Railways said the event marked the beginning of a series of activities that took place in Mahalapye over the weekend.

These were an activation cycling exercise dubbed the fun ride and Training Manufacturing Construction Mining Expo 2024 that culminated with a Gala Dinner and awards ceremony.

Mr Gontse said the fun ride cycling event was meant to hype the ambience for the Training Manufacturing Construction Mining Expo 2024 that created a platform for networking and sharing business ideas that had potential to change the economic landscape of the villagers. Ends
