21 Oct 2024

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the nation’s developmental goals during a political rally held on Wednesday.

Vice President Slumber Tsogwane addressed the party members, emphasising the importance of continued support for President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi in his bid for a second term.

Mr Tsogwane urged the residents of Makalamabedi to endorse President Masisi, stating that his leadership was crucial for empowering Batswana economically and improving their livelihoods.

He highlighted the BDP’s vision of promoting an inclusive economy guided by the principles of Vision 2036, which aims to build a prosperous nation through collective effort.

The Vice President elaborated on President Masisi’s transformation strategy, which sought to elevate Botswana’s economic standing from an upper-middle-income status to high income.

He noted that the introduction of a second Transitional National Development Plan aimed for diversified, private sector-led growth while positioning the government in a facilitative role.

“Efficient service delivery and transformation are key objectives,” Mr Tsogwane said, mentioning the establishment of a planning commission designed to lead inclusive national strategy development. The revised National Development Plan is seen as pivotal in maximizing value from limited resources.

Mr Tsogwane also discussed the recent awarding of tenders for various projects across the country, which he credited to a Development Manager model that had allowed for quicker project completion.

Acknowledging past economic challenges, he expressed optimism for Botswana’s resilience, recalling the country’s recovery from the economic downturn in 2008.

In support of the BDP’s vision, Makalamabedi council candidate Mr Bogosi Mogotsi encouraged residents to vote for change in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

He stressed the importance of electing a government that consulted its people.

Branch secretary Mr Elijah Motsamai also addressed the democrats, urging them to harness the potential of the Boteti River for tourism.

He encouraged residents to support Mr Mogotsi in the council elections, citing his capability to advocate for improved livelihoods. Ends
