Education life inheritance - Morwaeng

Teachers, parents and the community have been urged to work together with government to strive for academic excellence.

As basic education remained the core foundation in raising future leaders, it was therefore critical for  all stakeholders to take part.

The Minister for State President, Mr Kabo Morwaeng said at Bonewamang and Lewis memorial Primary Schools prize giving and graduation ceremony on Thursday.

He encouraged students to take their education seriously as it was a life inheritance that no one could take from them.

Mr Morwaeng said education played an important role in shaping the future of students and opened doors to different opportunities to enable them to achieve their dreams. He said education was an integral part in the development of the country, hence the need for learners to value it.

Mr Morwaeng commended teachers for their sterling job in nurturing and educating students to attain better academic results.

He implored them to remain committed to enhancing education empowerment, noting that literacy continued to be  an essential component of sustainable development. He appreciated parents for their support as education required the support fro, all stakeholders.

He said he would continue to support the schools so that students had a strong educational foundation.

He donated two gas stoves, each worth P3 000 to both primary schools to help curb shortage of kitchen equipment, especially during bad weather.

The guest speaker at Bonewamang Primary School, Ms Khumiso Kgakge, a former student and a member of class of 1983, advised students to remain focused on achieving their goals and be each other’s keeper in attaining success.

She implored students who performed well not to relax but study more to exceed expectation and encouraged those who did not get prizes to pull their socks.

Ms Kgakge encouraged them to be devoted to their studies to achieve their targets.

She said not all students were gifted academically but advised them not to despair as they had other talents, which they could use to enhance their lives.

Bonewamang Primary school  head Ms Peggy Thebeyadira said  their PSLE results have been good for the past years, as they got 80 per cent in 2020, 81 per cent in 2021, and decreased to 66.6 percent in 2022, and improved to 77.6 per cent in 2023.

She said they got position four  in Molepolole sub-region and second position in Molepolole South in the 2023 PSLE results.

Ms Thebeyadira said the Standard Sevens who recently wrote their PSLE got 71.9 per cent in their mock examinations and expected better outcome.  

Head of the Department of Learning Difficulties at Lewis Memorial School, Ms Tiny Ditao, said they appreciated the support the school got from all stake holders among them parents and the community at large which eased their work.

She said the school had in the past performed well though their grades have been dwindling since 2020 mostly due to the effects of COVID 19.

Ms Ditao said the school got 80.8 per cent pass in 2021, 69.8 per cent  in 2022 while last year they obtained 64.4 per cent pass mark.

She nevertheless said they were expecting better grades with the recent standard sevens and hoped to meet the required pass mark. Ends
