VP endorses Motaosane for ThamagaKumakwane

15 Oct 2024

Vice President and Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairperson, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has appealed to Thamaga/Kumakwane constituents to ensure  that Mr Palelo Motaosane returns to Parliament.

Mr Tsogwane made the request when launching Mr Motaosane and the constituency council candidates in Thamaga on Sunday.

He said it was crucial for the residents to ensure they voted the BDP in large numbers, to enable President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi to continue with his development agenda.

In the 2019 general elections, the opposition won a single council seat in the area and Mr Tsogwane said the error must be corrected.

He said there was complete harmony when the BDP controlled council and Parliament, saying development projects were easy to implement when there was no opposing voice.

The Vice President said it was imperative for the BDP members and Batswana to appreciate the level of development the country had enjoyed since independence.

By electing the BDP, Batswana would be preserving the peace and tranquility they had enjoyed since independence because the BDP was the only party with a vision to carry the nation forward, Mr Tsogwane said.

He said the party’s innovative ideas, made it one of the few political parties in Africa that had remained in power since independence and added that it still remained relevant.

He dismissed claims that the BDP government only undertook development projects during an election year saying everything was done according to the National Development Plan (NDP).

Mr Tsogwane said following the government’s decision to align NDPs with political term, a Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) effected and added that more projects would take place as this was their promise to Batswana.

The BDP, he said, would not make empty promises and waste money that could be used for developments.

Mr Tsogwane reminded how President Masisi was able to steer the country when it was faced with COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the President had promised more economic empowerment schemes as they moved towards building an inclusive economy.

For his part, Mr Tumiso Rakgare, who is BDP’s parliamentary candidate for Mogoditshane West and Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture said the BDP should have a clean sweep in the elections.

He appealed to Batswana to reject the opposition whom he said were involved in internal squabbles and therefore, unfit to rule the country.

Mr Rakgare said Mr Motaosane was the right candidate, had proved to be trustworthy and had delivered on some of his promises.

He said it was through Mr Motaosane’s dedication and hard work that the Molepolole-Thamaga road was completed and just recently, construction of Thamaga-Kubung commenced.

Mr Kagiso Mmusi, Minister of Defence and Security also called upon Thamaga/Kumakwane residents to vote for Mr Motaosane. ENDS
