President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has called on residents of Palapye to vote for the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary candidate, Ms Kungo Mabogo, along with her team of 17 council candidates in the impending general elections.
During a campaign launch held on Sunday, President Masisi cautioned Palapye constituents against repeating the mistakes of the 2019 elections, where many voted the opposition front. He emphasised the need to ‘correct this’ by electing a suitable parliamentary representative for the area.
Dr Masisi encouraged democrats in Palapye to unite and move past any divisions that arose during the primary elections.
He emphasised the importance of reaching out to voters from opposition parties and those undecided about their voting intentions.
Regarding BDP’s significant achievements in national development, President Masisi underscored the party’s track record in improving the lives of Batswana, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.
He pointed to successful initiatives, such as the expansion of water distribution networks and the construction of roads.
Moreover, he announced plans for the construction of a water network to supply water from large dams to villages in dire need, including those in the Tswapong region and Molepolole.
President Masisi criticised opposition parties for hindering development efforts and reiterated that they should not be considered for election.
He also revealed the government’s ambitious plan to build 13 hospitals simultaneously across the country, with the new Palapye hospital being one of the key projects.
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, also endorsed Ms Mabogo, highlighting her rich educational background.
Minister of Finance, Ms Peggy Serame, also endorsed Ms Mabogo, asserting that the BDP deserved another chance to lead due to its credible track record.
She described Ms Mabogo as a courageous candidate, capable of enduring political challenges.
As the chairperson of the BDP women’s wing, Ms Serame expressed concern regarding the low representation of women in political positions and stressed the need for the party to actively promote female candidates.
She also urged Palapye constituents to take advantage of the Chema Chema programme, citing that 973 applications from the area have been approved, with over P12 million allocated to support local initiatives.
As the countdown to the elections continues, the BDP is mobilizing its supporters to ensure a united front in their quest for victory. ENDS
