President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, on Saturday, took the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) campaign trail to Ramokgonami where he drummed up support for the party’s Tswapong South parliamentary candidate, Ms Dorcas Makgato.

President Masisi said the BDP-led government had over the years demonstrated capability to come up with solutions of challenges facing the country.

Therefore, the party deserved another chance to govern, he said.

The President said it was evident that the party was destined to improve the economic fortunes of the country, adding that Botswana was on course to attaining a high income status.

President Masisi said the reticulation of potable water from Dikgatlhong Dam through North South water carrier project to as far as Sekhutlane in the Good Hope/Mmathethe constituency bore testimony to government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for Batswana.

He also spoke of improved pay structure for members of the disciplined forces, saying this was a sign that the BDP-led government was doing more than enough to improve livelihoods.

In other issues, President Masisi said government installed a free high speed internet service through SmartBots initiative, something he described as a game changer for Batswana particularly the youth.

President Masisi also talked about the import ban on horticultural produce, which had reduced the food import bill and empowered farmers.

He noted that horticultural projects in the country were thriving, thanks to the leadership of his administration.

President Masisi highlighted that Tswapong South had performed well in agriculture, despite facing water shortages when he assumed the presidency.

Furthermore, he stated that water was being distributed across various parts of the country using advanced technology, aligning with Botswana’s knowledge-based economy.

He reported that access to potable water in the country exceeded 83 per cent, and if re-elected, he aimed to achieve 100 per cent accessibility.

The President urged the electorate to vote for all 61 BDP parliamentary candidates and 609 councillors to continue the legacy of a democratic nation.

Dr Masisi also outlined various developments occurring in the country, including the construction of health facilities, road networks linking villages, and empowerment programmes such as Chema-Chema, which the BDP had initiated.

For his part, BDP stalwart, Mr Kentse Rammidi, said Ms Makgato was a seasoned politician who had electorate interests at heart, adding that her wealth of experience in human development and economic issues would change the economic landscape of the constituency.

In her remarks, Ms Makgato committed to serving with dignity and working tirelessly should she be elected.

She said her political experience  would help advance development and services in the area.

Therefore, voting for her, she said  would ensure that the nation continued to enjoy peace and democracy while providing President Masisi an opportunity to progress the country.

Additionally, she expressed her plan to advocate for the construction of another primary school in Ramokgonami to alleviate classroom congestion. ENDS
