Molebatsi endorses Mzwinila dispels untruths

14 Oct 2024

The outgoing Mmadinare MP, Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi, has thrown his weight behind the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Dr Kefentse Mzwinila.

While assuring the BDP of his commitment to the party, Mr Molebatsi dispelled what he termed propaganda and untruths peddled in his name saying the media had been awash with mendacious reports to the effect that he was joining Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF).

There had been media reports suggesting Mr Molebatsi could jump ship to join the BPF following his loss to Dr Mzwinila in the primary elections.

However, Mr Molebatsi set the record straight to his supporters and the BDP faithful who thronged Maphoka freedom square to witness the launch of Dr Mzwinila and his six council candidates under Mmadinare constituency.

“I am here to support the BDP, to rally behind Dr Mzwinila and request for your votes,” he said.

Dr Mzwinila first represented the constituency after winning in the 2014 general elections before retracing his steps back to Parliament as specially elected MP.

While speaking at the same event, BDP’s secretary general, Mr Kavis Kario praised Dr Mzwinila’s academic credentials while also venerating his ministerial achievements.

“He has, through the Ministry of Lands and Water Affairs, committed to quenching Batswana of dire thirst while also ensuring the realisation of allocation of 100 000 plots to Batswana,” said Mr Kario who found such deliveries as a clear commitment of the BDP’s intentions to govern.

Dr Mzwinila, once a chairperson of the party’s youth league, has been praised as humble, a man of few words and much action, and a party’s thoroughbred politician.

“Dr Mzwinila is highly educated with a couple of masters’ degrees yet he is so humble and modest: the qualities he radiates on a daily basis,” said Mr Kario.

While recognising Messrs Molebatsi and Barulaganye Mogotsi for their support to Dr Mzwinila, the BDP secretary general said the peace and unity they each preached were the tenets by which the party was grounded on.

Dr Mzwinila delivered a short and precise speech, pleading for votes for him and his team.

He said voting for his team would ensure that the BDP-led government would continue with their plans for the country.

“We plead that you entrust us with your votes as you had done in the past. This would ensure that we continue with our impeccable track record of developing the country with our wide range of programmes and development plans,” said Dr Mzwinila. Ends
