Tech company tightens screws in laptop use at schools

While government has taken a giant stem to enable technological advancement in schools by distributing laptops to pupils, access to non-educational websites through such gadgets has raised a concern, as it distracts them from the primary purpose of such.
To curb abuse of technical devices in schools, Dichaba Consumer Electronics has stepped in. The company is actively working on implementing solutions such as website encryption and locking mechanisms to restrict pupils' access solely to educational content.
Dichaba Consumer Electronics sales and marketing manager, Ms Valentine Phelefu told BOPA that
they anticipated widespread adoption of digital tools across all levels of education, from primary to secondary schools.
Ms Phelefu underscored that data security measures and access control systems would be further refined, ensuring that pupils used technology responsibly and that the devices remained focused on enhancing education.
"As a result, digital learning will become more structured, secure and conducive to the long-term educational goals of the nation," she said.
She stated that expectation was to see enhanced integration of technology in the classroom, with digital devices becoming the standard learning aides.
"This will likely include the implementation of digital learning platforms, cloud-based educational resources and more advanced methods of instruction that leverage interactive technologies," she said.
She said in future, the digitalisation process would contribute to bridging the digital divide, providing equitable access to learning opportunities for pupils in urban and rural areas.
She said government support and collaboration with industry partners was likely to lead to improved teacher training in technology and a better overall understanding of how to effectively incorporate digital tools in the curriculum. Ends
