Botswana Postal Services has been saluted for being a catalyst and true game changer in the country’s socio-economic development.
Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane, said during World Post Day celebrations held at Mambas Football Grounds in Tati Siding that BotswanaPost has not only been instrumental in the development of infrastructure, but has also leapfrogged the pursuit of realising some of the Sustainable Development Goals over the years of giving Batswana remarkable and subsidised services.
This year’s edition of the world-wide commemoration was held under the theme: 150 years of Enabling Communication and Empowering Peoples Across Nations, which, according to Mr
Tsogwane, resonates with the aspirations of the national vision 2036 to build a society that thrived on inclusivity, connectivity, and innovation.
To this end, Mr Tsogwane, who also had the privilege of officially opening the newly built P4.2 million state-of-the-art Poso Mall in Tati Siding, built in conjunction with the North East district council, said it was, therefore, befitting to laud the great work and top-notch services provided by BotswanaPost to the general citizenry for years on end.
‘Ditirelo tse Poso e di neelang ga e di fe batho e lebile ditshenyegelo tsotlhe tsa yone , e di neela jaana ka ditlhwatlhwa tse di fokoditseng ka jaana e le thuso mo bathong gore ba tlhabolole matshelo a bone’ he said, he said in vernacular summing up the quality services yet below market rate charges by the Botswana Postal Services.
Mr Tsogwane was particularly happy with the Botswana Postal Services’ technological innovations, such as the Super app, which he said helped Batswana access both government and non-government services, ensuring that no one is left behind in line with the national agenda of inclusive development.
‘In this digital era, BotswanaPost has made great strides in embracing technology to meet the evolving needs of our people’, he stated, heaping praises on BotswanaPost for embracing the mindset change drive to steer further development and diversification initiative.
Minister of Communications, Knowledge, and Technology Thulagano Segokgo said he was proud that Botswana was a bonafide member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialised agency and the postal sector’s primary forum for international cooperation.
He said since joining Universal Postal Union in 1968, BotswanaPost has had many successes and has grown strong in its delivery of postal services to the nation and beyond.
Minister Segokgo echoed Vice President Tsogwane’s words, saying postal services in Botswana continue to play an instrumental role in the socio-economic landscape of its people.
He was elated that BotswanaPost has moved with the times to embrace new technologies, such as virtual teller machines, with a view to giving the best services to Batswana at nominal charges, something he stated deserved commendation.
Giving an overview of the Poso Mall project, BotswanaPost Chief Executive Officer Mr Cornelius Ramatlhakwane said the idea of the mall was conceived after land authorities in Tati Siding allotted Botswana Post a huge chunk of land.
The huge space caused those at the helm of Botswana Post to think long and hard about how best to utilize the land and maximize profits, hence the idea to build Poso Mall.
Mr Ramatlhakwane said the mall was a one-stop service centre that provided spaces for small micro-medium enterprises and gave the people of Tati–Siding the mall experience because there were only a few malls in the village.
He said BotswanaPost was now working around the clock to have similar malls in Mmopane and Sekoma to ensure socio-economic development across Botswana. ENDS
