Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary candidate for Tlokweng, Mr Thulagano Segokgo is  a humble and perfect candidate for the constituency.

This was said by Minster of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Kgotla Autlwetse when launching Mr Segokgo and  12 council candidates in Tlokweng on Sunday. Mr Autlwetse said Mr Segokgo knew the constituency’s issues well, hence he advocated for it to be upgraded to full district status, which had since been realised.

He said Mr Segokgo was a trustworthy and hardworking candidate who deserved to be voted for  in the coming general elections. As an IT specialist, Mr Segokgo according to Mr Autlwetse was best placed to further advance and enhance technological developments in the country especially as Botswana transitioned to a knowledge-based economy.

He further said BDP was a better party to vote for, urging members and Tlokweng constituents to rally behind Mr Segokgo. He said the BDP-led government had delivered on its promises, despite COVID-19; and cited that currently Batswana were able to use their residential land for agro tourismt.

Mr Autlwetse encouraged Batswana to utilise raw materials found in Botswana and commercialise them for local produce, to minimise on imports. He said this could open opportunities for manufacturing, which eventually would curb unemployment particularly among young people.

Mr Autlwetse urged BDP members to desist from decampaigning each other. He said losing the party’s primary elections should not create conflict within the party, and derail it from the goal of securing seats. Therefore he cautioned them that going against the party’s wishes and not voting for Mr Segokgo would be self-inflicted suffering.

For his part, Mr Segokgo said since winning the constituency from opposition in 2019, BDP-led government had delivered on key developments from the District Development Plan 8 such as ensuring that Tlokweng had a substation, teachers’ accommodation, recreational park; all of which the opposition could not deliver.

He also said constituency funds were utilised to carry out developments in Tlokweng constituency. He said BDP had always been intentional about developing the constituency and therefore should be given another chance. ENDS
