The President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has described the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) parliamentary candidate for Good Hope/Mmathethe, Ms Peggy Serame as an astute leader capable of turning around the plight of people in the area.
Dr Masisi, who was speaking at the launch of Ms Serame in Mmathethe on Sunday said voting for her and her team of 21 council candidates into office would mark the beginning of a new chapter for the constituency in terms of the pace of developments as the team comprised men and women with high leadership qualities.
“She is a very fine Minister of Finance,” he said, commending her for being the link that connected all government ministries, generally facilitating the flow of their work. “She is one of my main advisors.”
The President said due to her hardworking nature, Ms Serame was a cut above the rest, adding that none of her four competitors for the constituency was as devoted as she was to advancing the interests not only of the people of Good Hope/Mmathethe but also of the entire nation.
Mr Eric Molale, the former MP for Good Hope/Mabule, implored constituents to vote for Ms Serame during the October 30 elections, saying that would advance the BDP-led government’s work of developing the area.
Mr Molale said with the area having made strides in terms of developments, voting in a BDP candidate would ensure further developments.
“At this moment, some developments intended to improve lives are ongoing in the area. Like it has been mentioned, only one village of Mogobewakgomo, out of a total of 46 villages, is yet to be electrified,” he said, indicating that, that showed commitment on the part of government to develop the constituency.
Mr Molale, who is the Minister of Transport and Public Works, added that implementation of some road projects would begin soon in the area, among them being the Mmathethe-Werda-Bray, Good Hope-Kgoro-Gathwane, Good Hope-Gamajaalela and the Good Hope-Mogwalale roads.
He pointed out that the Mabule-Sekhutlane road was at design stage and would be included in National Development Plan 12.
Mr Molale said declaring Good Hope a fully-fledged district fasttracked the pace of developments and brought services closer to the people, thereby sparing residents having to travel long distances to access services as was the case in the past.
“We have also connected villages that previously received power supply from South Africa to our national electricity grid and this has saved them for the constant load-shedding that they used to contend with,” he said.
Emphasising why the BDP should be given another chance to lead the country, Mr Molale said the BDP government had also worked hard to address the water shortage that some villages in the constituency had been grappling with for years.
He said the reticulation of water from the north of the country to augment water supply in the south had relieved the constituency of its water woes.
He said given the string of achievements registered so far, it was only fitting that democrats and residents of Good Hope/Mmathethe voted for the BDP in the coming general elections.
Another speaker, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mr Pono Moatlhodi, reiterated Mr Molale’s pleas for democrats to vote for Msy Serame and council candidates .Appealing for votes, Ms Serame said she and her team were committed to serving the constituency with honour and integrity. ENDS
