Lentsweletau/Lephepe residents have been urged to vote for the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) party into power.
Speaking during the launch of the Lentsweletau/Lephepe UDC parliamentary candidate, Mr Tshenolo Bogatsu in Mmopane on October 6, Botswana National Front deputy secretary Mr Nelson Ramaotwana said a UDC government would bring peace and stability in the country.
Mr Ramaotwana said in any democratic society, opposition parties’ played a vital role of shaping the political landscape and that the UDC had contributed to the stability and harmony experienced in the country.
He said their contributions went far beyond mere dissent and that they were instrumental in fostering peace by promoting dialogue, accountability and inclusivity.
He urged Batswana to vote UDC into power as they were part of the peace in the country, saying going forward they would ensure that democracy thrived, leading to a more peaceful nation.
He said in other countries there was turmoil as opposition parties created tensions leading to war.
He said the UDC had helped to bridge the divide and contributed to dialogue to mitigate tensions and create a more harmonious environment.
He said UDC was also promising to create jobs for the youth. “Unemployment hinders peace and harmony especially among the youth because many are unemployed,” he said
Mr Ramaotwana said UDC wanted all Batswana to live well with the basic necessities of life to cater for their needs, including health and equal access to opportunities for each citizen regardless of background.
He said Mr Bogatsu was the most capable to represent their needs, adding that as a former school head, ‘he had what it takes to diversify and bring change in the constituency.’
For his part, Mr Bogatsu said UDC would bring diversification to the Lentsweletau/Lephepe constituency, saying the Medie coal mine would create jobs.
Mr Bogatsu said with their manifesto advocating to diversify the economy, they would be forced to quality goods and services and that it would create jobs and distribute wealth that empowered all citizens.
He said coal from Medie could be turned into petrol instead of buying petrol from outside the country.
He said factories would be built to package coal and use it to make ingredients for tarred roads, adding that their factories would have the capacity to employ and generate jobs for an increasingly qualified youthful workforce, including those that had no qualifications.
Mr Bogatsu was launched with nine UDC council candidates for the region. ENDS
