No Christmas for athletes
03 Oct 2024
As their peers will be indulging and enjoying Christmas, Olympic 200 metres champion Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori, Leungo Scotch and others will be sweating and toiling in preparation for the 2025 season.
Their coach, Kebonyemodisa Mosimanyane said they took a break from the track and would start training in the third week of December in Maun.
He said it was a collective decision of the team and noted that they were going to have a busy season, which included the World Championships, Diamond League and World Relays.
Mosimanyane also said they had a lot of work to do in their preparations for the athletes to continue with their impressive performance, adding that they were going to start from the beginning.
He explained that Tebogo’s Olympic performance could not be easily maintained and that they took a long break to flush out the previous seasons training and competitions.
The coach however said they would prepare for the World Championships and continue to make Batswana proud, adding that he was aware that Batswana expected Tebogo to continue dominating in his races.
He also said they would get back to the 100 metres race and that they were confident that they could grab a medal in the event at the World Championships.
Mosimanyane said the only challenge was that they came after the Diamond League finals and that preparing for them would be tricky.
“We have to be very careful how we approach the Diamond League finals and the World Championships,” he said. Ends
