VP encourages Batswana to vote in numbers

Vice President Slumber Tsogwane has encouraged Batswana to vote in large numbers during the October 30 polls.
Speaking during Independence Day celebration in Rakops, Mr Tsogwane advised those who have registered to vote in the upcoming general elections to keep their registration cards safe and ensure that their identity cards were valid.
Mr Tsogwane emphasised the importance of voting, saying it was a way of protecting the peace and democracy that had prevailed in the country since 1966.
Because of the free and fair elections since independence, the Vice President said Botswana had been a shining example of democracy to other African states.
He also commended churches for their role in ensuring citizens’ uprightness, adding that they played a critical role in the peace and tranquillity prevailing in the country.
Still at the event, Mr Tsogwane, who is former Boteti West MP assured Rakops residents that government would assist where possible in this drought period.
He encouraged farmers to prepare well in time for ploughing as the season was approaching.
Mr Tsogwane highlighted that farming was a typical lifestyle of a Motswana, hence the younger generation should embrace it and continue the legacy of their forefathers.
For his part, Kgosi Jacob Diane of Rakops, commended the country for having maintained stability and harmony since independence.
He noted some countries had experienced civil wars because of political instability. Ends
