Boteti experiences successful outcomes

25 Sep 2024

Since 2019, Boteti District Council has managed to complete a total of six road projects at the tune of P600 million.

Speaking during the last session of the council before the next general elections, the outgoing council chairperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe said such projects included design and construction of Thalamabele-Mosu road.

He said that included re-sealing of the 40 km Khumaga-Rakops road, dry grading and spot improvement of the 19 km Toromoja-Rakops road, resealing of Makoba veterinary gate-Letlhakane road and supply and installation of road designs on Mopipi turn off-Motopi road.

“All these works were completed. Design and construction of the 33 km Makalamabedi-Motopi road has commenced and the project is due for completion on August 2025,” Mr Galeragwe said.

Mr Galeragwe also noted that design and construction of the 14 km Rakops-Xere road was anticipated to commence during the 2024/2025 financial year, while currently its tender was at evaluation stage.

Mr Galeragwe highlighted that the district experienced meaningful achievements through Constituency Community Projects funding during financial years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 respectively in terms of improved internal road networks.

“We received a donation for internal road works for Letlhakane and Rakops villages from Debswana at a budget provision of P12 million over a period of three years, starting with the year 2023 to 2025,” he said.

Mr Galeragwe decried that the water situation in the district remained a challenge as Boteti continued battling with shortage in some villages.

Due to increased demand, he noted that Letlhakane was hit hard by water shortage, while to mitigate that, two tenders had been awarded, being an upgrade of Letlhakane Booster pump station and construction of pipeline to Phase I tank.

He also said the commissioning of Boteti Southern and Central Rural Water Supply Cluster villages project would improve water supply in villages such as Xhumo, Mokoboxane, Mopipi, Kedia, Toromoja, Mmadikola, Rakops and Xere. Ends
