Moshupa District Council has been commeded for completing projects as per specification, within budget and contracted timelines.

This was said by the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele during an event meant to officially hand over completed projects undertaken through Constituency Community Projects, road levy, maintenance projects as well as Ipelegeng Skills Development Component (ISDC), in Moshupa on Friday.

“I want to commend the district council for its proactive leadership through what has been a very challenging time of COVID-19,” said Mr Modukanele.

He pointed out that the district was given five years to complete the projects but due to COVID-19, they only had two and half years to complete the projects which he said was commendable.

Mr Modukanele further noted that the council was funded with more than P16 million from the road levy fund for the development of 13 projects covering a distance of over 16.44 kilometres, maintenance of internal roads, installation of solar powered lights, construction of culverts and vegetation control.

He said the project presented employment opportunities for locals, especially the youth.

He urged the community to make use of the projects and take good care of them so that future generations could also benefit from them. Giving the projects’ overview, the Council Secretary, Mr Edwin Pheko explained that the main purpose of the meeting was to engage with the community and to demonstrate how they used government funds.

Mr Pheko told the meeting that most of the projects were completed while some were still in the process.

He confirmed completed CCP projects such as the installation of 1026 solar powered street lights across the district and the construction of service centres in Pitseng, Manyana and Ntlhantlhe that were built through the ISDC programme. ENDS
