Military Veterans of Botswana (MVOB), an association dedicated to the welfare, empowerment and socio-economic integration of former Botswana Defence Force (BDF) members, will hold its annual general meeting in on Saturday 21 in Francistown at Adansonia Hotel.
Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday, Secretary General of MVOB, Retired Major Mholo Lesotlho said the meeting would focus on empowering BDF veterans by providing them with the tools, knowledge and networks necessary to create sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship, community development and personal well-being.
MVOB was set up three ago to address the plight of former BDF members.
“Most of ex-soldiers struggle to make ends meet. Therefore it is through this organisation that their quality of life will be enhanced,” Ret. Major Lesotlho said.
He said the organisation would ensure military veterans who worked and resided together for decades at military garrisons, and now live in different parts of the country are able to stay in touch.
The annual general meeting will be held under the theme ‘Empowering Veterans for Sustainable Economic Growth and National Development,’ with objectives to empower them through entrepreneurship, financial literacy and investment planning, health, wellness and personal development, community development and environmental sustainability as well as networking and collaborations.
Ret. Major Lesotlho said the meeting would bring together veterans, government officials, business leaders and community stakeholders who will address the challenges veterans face as they transition from military to civilian life and assist them in exploring new opportunities.
Chief Operations Officer of Local Enterprise Authority (LEA), Mr Fana Kelebogile will be the guest speaker. Ends
