Technology affords students the opportunity to solve complex problems more creatively, says acting branch manager for Kanye First National Bank Botswana (FNBB), Mr Eric Setumo.
Mr Setumo, who was the guest speaker at the Moshupa Senior Secondary School prize giving ceremony on Friday said since students were at the heart of technological transformation, it was important that they embraced electronic devices as the gateway to new opportunities and avenues for growth.
“I am informed that government has procured laptops for all students. It is commendable that there is wide internet connectivity in the school to enable effective usage of these technological tools,” he said as he emphasised the importance of technology as a fundamental tool that shaped how people learnt, communicated and grew.
“ICT empowers students by providing access to a wealth of information, facilitating new ways to interact with content and enabling innovative ways of problem-solving. It breaks down barriers, allowing learners from diverse backgrounds to connect, collaborate and thrive,” he said.
While commending teachers for their dedication to helping shape the future of learners, Mr Setumo said it was crucial that they integrated ICT in their teaching activities, saying by so doing they would enhance the overall learning experience of students.
Mr Setumo said the theme of the event: ICT - A vehicle for empowering and developing the 21st century learner, was apt as it came at a time where government was championing the implementation of the Reset Agenda and the Mindset Change campaign.
Moshupa secondary school, head teacher Mr Herbert Setume said the school was gradually moving towards its target of being counted among the best. He said once rated among the poorest performers, it was encouraging that Moshupa Senior Secondary School was now in the top 10 as per the previous BGCSE results.
Mr Setume said they were determined to do even better and were now targeting a spot in the top 5.
He thus appealed to students, parents, teachers and other key stakeholders to help the school attain its dream. Mr Setume said it was reassuring to see the school’s alumni taking keen interest in the institution, saying their help contributed greatly to students attaining better results.
While urging learners to remain focused on the ultimate prize of attaining good academic results, the school head implored them to also understand how much society valued good behaviour, hence it was important for them to meet societal expectations in that regard. Ends
