Police in Gumare are investigating an incident in which a 54-year-old man of Subiya ward was killed by an elephant on Monday morning.

In an interview, Gumare station commander, Superintendent Chenamo Orateng said the man was accompanied by three others when the incident happened at around 7am.

Supt Orateng said the incident happened at Moswangpoo cattle post, about six kilometres from Gumare.

He said the quartet were from Gumare going to Xekedao cattle post when the elephant attacked them, and they separated and ran for cover.

Supt Orateng said one of the quartet, aged 56, reported the incident to the police at around 11am and the police went to the scene where the man was lying motionless on the ground.

He said the man was rushed to Gumare Primary Hospital, where he was certified dead upon arrival.

The station commander appealed to members of the community to be cautious whenever they walked in the bush since theirs was a wildlife infested area. Ends
