Pastors have been commended for the good work they are doing for the nation.

Speaking during a prayer session for this year’s general elections in Gaborone on Monday, former deputy speaker  of the National Assembly, Mr Pono Moatlhodi urged them to continue to invite the Lord to guide those that would be elected.

He said the prayers were necessary around this time, when the nation was about to go to the polls, noting that Batswana believed in God and acknowledged Him in all that they do. He urged the nation to unite in prayer.

Mr Moatlhodi said it was important to pray for peace and unity that Botswana was known for.

While other countries lacked peace, Mr Moatlhadi said Batswana should not be derailed.

He said social ills that bedeviled the nation could be addressed through prayer.

Mr Moatlhodi called for all Batswana to exercise their constitutional right on October 30, the day set aside for the general elections.

“I request all to vote, regardless of your status. The peace and tranquility that exist, depend on you,” he said, adding that Batswana should bear that in mind during election time.

Minister of Environment and Tourism, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja hailed Batswana for coming together in prayer for elections, which she said was a true reflection of peace that existed in the country as different religions, could gather for one common good.

“Botswana has a lot to teach the world,” she said, noting that they could teach other nations to live in harmony.

The prayer session was attended by different representatives from different religions including Muslims, Sikhs, Bahai and different Christian denominations. Ends
