FNBB donates waste management infrastructure

In an effort to promote environmentally sound waste management and collection, the First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Foundation has donated a waste management facility worth P75 000 to the Kgatleng District Council.  Speaking during the handing over event in Mochudi recently, FNBB Foundation Head Ms Atang Mbikiwa said the facility was a significant initiative dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability and community empowerment.  She said the facility was meant to encourage waste management among the communities.  The donation of the waste infrastructure comprises nine refuse bins that separate waste, which will serve among other areas, Mochudi, Rasesa, Morwa and Pilane.  “It is through these initiatives that the FNBB Foundation continues to play its role in investing money in different social responsibility projects to communities,” she remarked. 

She said objectives of the donation was to facilitate public health education on waste management and to encourage recycling of litter.  

When receiving the donation, the chairperson of Kgatleng District Council and also Councillor for Rasesa, Mr Daniel Molokwe applauded the FNBB Pilane branch for availing the infrastructure for waste collection and management for Kgatleng community.  

Mr Molokwe noted that the FNBB project was important in contributing to the uplifting of the community of Kgatleng, adding, that the initiative to support sustainable environment should be supported by community members and leaders.  He said the donation comes at a time when the Kgatleng District was experiencing waste management challenges of indiscriminate dumping of litter. 

Mr Molokwe said cleanliness  of the environment was the responsibility for all and as such urged members of the community to always clean their surroundings. ends
