Official urges companies to adopt Moremogolo Primary School
08 Sep 2024
Companies that sponsored the construction of Moremogolo Primary School’s guidance and counselling facility have been urged to consider adopting the school.
Deputy district commissioner, Mr Patrick Tlotleng made the call at the official opening of the facility on Friday.
The facility, which also comprised a sick bay, was sponsored by nine companies while the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA), spent over P83 000 for labour and purchasing of building materials.
Mr Tlotleng said taking their support a step further by adopting the school would be a great thing to do.
He thanked the sponsors for their generous contribution and lauded their commitment in fostering a conducive learning environment for Moremogolo Primary School learners.
He said the guidance and counselling facility was a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication of community partnership, adding however challenges would remain, particularly in ensuring comprehensive support for learners.
He added that the initiative to build the facility was prompted by the unavailability of senior teachers’ guidance and counselling office space.
He said learners’ sensitive cases were either attended to in the school head or deputy head’s offices, which were always interrupted by administrative work.
Regarding the sick bay, Mr Tlotleng said it had been an inconvenience to use the school library for health issues, thus commended the City of Francistown Council for its strategic guidance in making the project a success by identifying the site, designing the plans and inspecting the project from setting the ground up to its completion.
On other issues, Mr Tlotleng commended the school management and PTA committee for reviving the spirit of self-reliance, which was one of the founding principles of Botswana.
He said the council also provided technical assistance through the provision of Ipelegeng and electrical professionals.
For her part, school head, Ms Kgakgamatso Chilume said they had not been doing well in the past few years but aimed to improve on their academic results and were targeting an 85 per cent pass rate this year, despite the challenges they were faced with.
She said the school had three streams which included reception, standard one to seven and special education classes.
Acting North East District regional operations director, Dr Salini Bafaneli thanked all who were involved in the construction of the facility and using the donations for their intended purpose.
He however appealed to the school management to put the facility to good use and care in order to improve the academic results, adding “such generosity comes once in a lifetime”. ENDS
