Majaga sets PB

03 Sep 2024

Botswana women’s 100m T13 runner Gloria Majaga has set a new Personal Best time of 13.12  from 13.41 at the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 in France on Tuesday.

She however did not advance to the final stage after finishing fifth on lane five as she was slow from the blocks and that gave here competitors an upper hand in their heat.

The heat was won by Lamiya Valiyeva of Azerbaijan with 11.81 followed by Soares da Silva of Brazil with 11.90, while position three went to Adiaratou Iglesias Forneiro of Spain with 12.46.

Majaga will shift focus now to prepare for the Women’s 400 metres T13 scheduled for Thursday evening.

National team coach, Nason ‘Hadji’ Maotwe told BOPA that he was happy with Majaga’s performance because she did her best.

“She did what she could do, and the most important thing is that she finished her race healthily, and she will have rest before competition in another race on Thursday,” said Maotwe.

He said factors that worked against Majaga included rain, even during warm-up, and Maotwe said they expected her to run a better time, judging by the way she had been training.

“The 400 metre is her strong race. That is what we are here for. We had to add 100 metres because there was an available slot,” he said and added that Edwin Masuge would be competing Thursday morning.

Masuge will take part in the men’s 400 metres T13 and will be competing in the straight finals.

Maotwe wished both athletes the best. Ends
