President Masisi mourns cousin

His Excellency President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi is mourning the loss of his cousin, Ms Georginah Modimakwane, who passed away on August 27 at the age of 66. 

The deceased was the daughter of Mr Tebatso Therego and Ms Dikeledi Therego, who was a sister to the President’s late father, Mr Edison Masisi. 

Visiting the Therego family at Kgosing ward in Thamaga on Sunday, President Masisi expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of his cousin. 

“We are mourning the loss of Ms Modimakwane with you,” the President said, wishing the family strength to cope with the loss. 

He said the Botswana Democratic Party had asked him to convey a message of condolences to the family and that they wished them to stay strong during the heartbreaking moment. 

Dr Masisi, who was accompanied by First Lady Neo, called for unity within the family and pledged his family’s support. 

President Masisi said it was befitting to pay tribute to his cousin, whom he described as a  respectful, kind and a compassionate person. 

The deceased’s brothers, Mr Thebeyame Therego and Colonel (retired) Bruce Therego, expressed gratitude to Dr Masisi for having found a time in his busy schedule to pay homage to their sister. 

Earlier, Ms Kgomotso Bareki, had stated that her younger sister died after a short illness. 

Ms Modimakwane is survived by a daughter, son and four grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest on Wednesday. Ends
