The introduction of the Constituency Community Projects (CCP) has contributed to the economic upliftment of communities.
Speaking during the tour of CCP projects in his constituency recently, Mochudi East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule said he was impressed by the work done in the delivery of the projects.
He said despite challenges experienced during the implementation of the projects, he was happy that the majority of them had been completed.
Mr Pule, who is also the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development said it was important that he checked all the projects in his constituency adding that the tour helped him appreciate their progress.
He said his office was the final arbitrator of all constituency projects adding that whatever challenge the community experienced during the construction of projects, they should alert him without delay so that the matter could be addressed.
Mr Pule said he went to see kgotla shelter and community hall in Ramotlabaki, pavement at Oliphant’s Drift, 37 Street lights at Malolwane, pavement at Ramonaka and 15 more street lights at Mmathubudukwane.
He expressed worry that some of the projects were from the past financial years and should have been completed a year or more ago. He however, expressed happiness that finally they had been completed.
“I am really impressed by the workmanship especially the one on the road construction.”
He said he was worried about a library at Ramonaka which had been handed but not completed while another one at Mabalane had been completed and yet to be handed, saying if projects were not utilised, they would become white elephants.
He added that he would engage with those involved to ensure that the projects were completed.
Kgatleng District Deputy Council Secretary for Development Ms Dorcus Tsamai said several projects in the district among them road paving, and solar street lights had been completed.
She said the projects were reserved for local companies as a way of empowering them, adding that all projects carried out in different villages were agreed on following a consultation with dikgosi and village development committees.
She added that although they had experienced some challenges, they managed to overcome them with some projects completed and some at defect liability stage.
The deputy council secretary said project evaluation for the financial year 2024/25 was ongoing and projects would commence soon. Such projects, she said, were internal roads as per the decision made by government.
Mabalane VDC chairperson Ms Christina Kgaswe said they were happy with the CCP projects especially the road project.
She said they were hopeful to get more funding to cover the remaining distance.
She said their village was prone to flooding and was optimistic that the new development would help to curb flooding on roads.
Councillor for Sikwane/Mabalane Mr Seth Sekate said he was happy that their request to attend to the backlog of CCP projects, some dating back to 2017/18, was acceded to indicating that they were now at the 2023/24 CCP projects and readying themselves for 2024/25. Ends
