Selebi Phikwe bus and taxi rank at completion stage

Construction of Selebi Phikwe bus and Taxi rank and market stall is said to be nearing completion.

Developed through the PPP project development in collaboration with Nickel Heal, the rank is expected to facilitate better transportation services whilst the construction of market stalls would address SMME’s issues and improve economic outlook of the town.

Giving an update on the on-going bus and taxi rank project duringv a full council meeting, the Mayor of Selebi Phikwe Mr Lucas Modimana said progress at the bus and taxi rank terminal building was at 94 per cent.

He said this phase of the project was initially scheduled for completion by July 31.

However he highlighted that there were still outstanding tasks including the power connection, bell mouth and drainage, adding that the contractor had already made the payment for power connection and was awaiting Botswana Power Corporation to proceed with the connection.

Due to these delays, Mr Modimana explained that the contractor had requested an extension of time by 21 calendar days to finalise the project.

Mr Modimana also informed councillors that Selebi Phikwe hospital, which received approval under the UDP4 initiative, was set to proceed using a Development Manager model.

The project is currently at the design stage.  He said this refurbishment aimed to effectively address the long-standing challenges faced by the community, enhancing healthcare services and infrastructure in the region.In addition to these projects, Mr Modimana also informed councillors about infrastructure refurbishments and major maintenance done to increase capacity in the town.

One of the major projects conducted, he said included construction of 10.4km of 11kv dedicated feeder to Selebi Phikwe Citrus farm, upgrade of Phikwe 66kv switching station, upgrading of bare conductors amongst others.

He said Selebi Phikwe has adopted solarisation of 244 street lights with the objective of contributing to climate change mitigation measure. Ends
