BDF promotes healthy lifestyle

Botswana Defence Force (BDF) hosted wellness week in a bit to promote good health and financial stability.
The event which commenced on August 26 ending August 31 in Francistown attracted bases from as far as Maun, Selebi Phikwe including the host Francistown.
It also included a family fun day where the community was invited.
Other stakeholders present were Diagnofirm, Metropolitan and Mascom to help promote good health and push forward the event to being a success.
Guest of honour, the Director of Policy Strategy and Plans at Sir Seretse Khama BDF Barracks (SSKB), Brigadier Bruce Thobane congratulated 2BDE for being able to host an event despite limited resources.
He also thanked them for prioritising the health and welfare of BDF personnel and other respective participants.
He further stated that health was reflected through the mental, social and financial aspects of life. He stated that taking care of oneself should be an individual priority which also encompassed respecting oneself and those around.
Mr Thobane also urged those present to take care of their finances, stating that if one was in debt, there was no how they could have peace other than being vulnerable to stress.
He also stated that the event gave one the opportunity to reflect on the mistakes or choices made by adopting a positive mindset to drive change.
The Commander of 2BDE Brigadier Kagiso Kgaswanyane emphasised that having mindset change was a powerful tool that could transform an individual’s overall wellbeing.
He stated that the BDF was pleased to host such an event during a period where the world was faced with Mpox.
“It is crucial that we enhance our health and wellness to combat these challenges with an upper hand,” he added.
For his part, 2BDE Brigade Seargant Major Kabelo Maruping said it was essential for people to create time for their wellbeing.
“The greatest wealth is having a healthy mind and the right people in your life”, he added.
He also encouraged those present to take part and involve themselves in sporting activities. He also urged them to promote good health through donating blood and keeping check of their health statuses on a regular basis.
Mr Maruping went on to thank the stakeholders present for giving the BDF a helping hand in promoting good health amongst its personnel and the community. Ends
