Mogome-Mokgware road planned for NDP 12

29 Aug 2024

Mogome-Mokgware road will be considered for construction during the National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12).

This was said by Minister of Transport and Public Works, Honourable Eric Molale when answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday.

He acknowledged that it had taken long to be upgraded from gravel to bitumen mainly due to budgetary constraints.

The minister said government intended to have accesses to all villages and major centres falling outside the 10km Access Policy like Mogome-Mokgware road, which was 22km from A1 road and 12km from Mogome be upgraded to bitumen standard.

He added that government recently took a decision to upgrade some roads during the second Transitional National Development Plan to clear the backlog.

He indicated that Mogome-Mokgware road was not prioritised for upgrading to bitumen in the previous National Development Plans.

“My ministry currently does not have plans to construct Mogome-Mokgware road, however as I indicated, the road will be considered together with others during NDP 12,” he said.

Palapye MP, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi had asked the minister to state why Mogome-Mokgware road had taken long to be upgraded from gravel to bitumen.

Mr Ramogapi also wanted to know how long the project had been in the NDP and when it would be constructed. ENDS
