27 Aug 2024

Top Gun Bikers Motor Cycling Club on Saturday donated food hampers to UCCSA Lephoi Centre for the Blind in Francistown.

Lephoi Centre for the Blind, located in Monarch, is a residence to visually impaired children, who access specialised education at Phatogo Primary School across the road.

The donations included food, blankets, clothing and school uniform.

Speaking at the donation, Francistown District commissioner, Ms Chabongwa Matseka said cycling was not only a source of fun, but also a vital cog in the wheel of economic progress.

“Biking has the potential to lure tourists through sports tourism,” said Ms Matseka, adding that biking could transform this country into an economic hub.

“With the right investment in cycling infrastructure and promotion of cycling events, we can create jobs and attract new businesses.

Tourists will flock into our country for its cycling experiences, bringing with them a fresh wave of spending and opportunities,” she said.

Ms Matseka explained that the donation was in line with 2036 national vision of prosperity for all.

She challenged the club to recruit more members into the club and spread its wings of generosity to the whole country.

Ms Matseka advised club members to strengthen their cordial relationship with members of the society and promote team work.

The club president, Mr Siyave Mashika said government alone could not afford to provide for everyone, hence the donation.

Giving a vote of thanks, vice board chairperson, Ms Emily Magole promised that the donation would be put to good use.

In his welcome remarks, Centre Manager, Mr Ephraim Ngoma said the donation came at the right time when the centre was faced with many challenges.

Mr Ngoma said the aim was to make Lephoi Centre a place of excellence by producing talented children who could make a living despite their disabilities.

The centre caters for children from the northern part of Botswana from as far afield as Shakawe and Kasane.ENDS
