The Sunday Ultimate Chill, a themed picnic event hosted at Top High gardens in Gabane depicted the 1960s mood, giving young patrons a taste of the yesteryears pop culture whilst at the same time taking back in time the older patrons.

The day event that took place in Gabane on Sunday epitomised fashion, music and decoration of the 1960s. 

Patrons honoured the theme with attire once believed to be the height of fashion over five decades ago and now vintage.

 Singer sewing machines, bubble chairs and dining sofas, black and white television set boxes and rugged cupboards decorated the place.

Loose fitting dresses were the order of the day with velvet and lace being the dominant part of the attire worn by the women, paired with their clogs, platforms and wedge shoes. 

Men were not left behind and were handsomely dressed in narrow striped checked shirts, some in tight and loose fitting bell bottom pants kept in place with cross bands.  The cable knit cardigan was also another feature at the event.

Music too was of the past decades, with funk and soul sounds playing repeatedly. The DJs also fused gospel and rhythm and blues sounds, making the 1960s themed Sunday Ultimate Chill event a memorable one for patrons. 

Songs that included Promises, Tsakane, Come Duze, Guguthandayo, Burning Up, and Umqombothi kept revellers entertained.

The baby boomers reminisced about the good old days and appreciated organisers of the event for rewinding history . 

“It is an aha moment of recognition, and we are impressed that even today some young people find it important to host events which we can attend and reminisce about our old days,” said Kedibone Nkile.

“I borrowed this outfit from my grandmother’s closet and although it could not fit properly, I improvised with some accessories from her closet as well, to make it look exactly as I wanted, the 60s as I have seen in her pictures,” said Lala Segodi, who came clad in flare floral dress with a figure belt and a beret to complement the look.
