State president ministry hosts wellness day for employees

The interconnectedness of mental, physical and spiritual health was echoed at the Ministry for State President Wellness Day that was held at Lion Park Resort outside Gaborone recently.
Sharing the message, the Department of Information Services Director, Ms Maria Leshongwane, made reference to the Biblical scripture in the book of 3 John 1:2, which reads; “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be empowered, even as your soul prospers.”
This message, she said, also reminded people about the importance of their spiritual commitment.
“The fact that our health is indeed our wealth cannot be over emphasised,” she said, stressing the theme: My Health, My Wealth, Comprehensive Care for a Brighter Future.
She stressed the importance of organised and consolidated awareness-raising efforts in combating the outcomes of mental health conditions.
Ms Leshongwane appreciated all stakeholders who honoured the invitation and helped in the ministry’s efforts to improve the employees’ health through screening for various NCDs, among others.
The Director also thanked the ministry employees for having found it fit to attend and participate in the wellness day activities, which also featured a keynote address by a Mental Health expert, Dr Katlego Rabuti on overcoming mental health conditions for a healthy wellbeing.
Dr Rabuti said mental health was a serious illness, as it seldom had physical symptoms that could be easily identified.
“A healthy mind is crucial for one to cope in the workplace, because if you are unable to meet your job demands, you start having workload stress. So, a healthy mind is very pivotal to one's life, especially your well-being,” he said.
“When you have your mental health in check, your future will be bright and your productivity will improve,” added Dr Rabuti.
The day included team building activities such as aerobics, athletics, tug of war, mind games and screening for hypertension, HIV, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Employees who had taken part in the ministry's biggest loser challenge were also awarded certificates. ends
