Government departments in Letlhakeng have been urged to resuscitate the functionality and effectiveness of the district development structures by attending district committee meetings.

Speaking at the District Development Committee workshop in Letlhakeng recently, Letlhakeng District Commissioner, Mr Ian Tema regretted that functionality and effectiveness of the district development structures was deteriorating due to non-commitment of some departments.

He therefore called on departments to attend district development structure meetings and work as a team to help the district reach full potential, citing that working in silos would impede service delivery.

Mr Tema said departments should have commitment to build and develop committees. “Do everything   for a purpose not compliance,” he said.

He encouraged departments to share resources, especially during trying times the economy was going through.

“The bigger picture is that there is no money. Let us tighten the belt. Do everything to make savings and let us resort to a paperless office,” he said.

Mr Tema expressed concern that though government had declared Friday the national colours day, officers now abused that dispensation by wearing any other colour including football merchandise from different leagues.

Assistant District Commissioner, Ms Oabona Kalwetse said it was incumbent on all officers to effect change through positive mindset change.

“Your thoughts patterns and how you view the world build your mindset,” Ms Kalwetse added.

She called on officers to incorporate national values like, humanity, productivity, diligence and excellence in their duties, saying they could help improve service delivery.

Following the workshop, there were team building activities that included different sporting activities to reflect on the importance of all forms of communication including non-verbal communication, team spirit and all principles of management. ends
