First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Foundation has been hailed for supporting the education system as such will boost academic performance in schools and produce competent learners.

Supporting the educating system will also help the government realise one of its vision 2036 pillars of human and social development.

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Honourable Aubrey Lesaso said when the  foundation donated learning aids to Mokgenene Primary School recently.

“I am happy with the decision First National Bank Botswana Foundation has taken in lending a helping hand to the government by contributing one per cent of their profits towards government schools,” Mr Lesaso said.

The donation included solar backpacks, lamps and stationery, among other learning materials.

Mr Lesaso, also Member of Parliament for Shoshong constituency said the solar bags and stationery were meant to enhance academic performance.

“We always appeal to private companies and parents to collaborate with us as the Ministry of Education and Skills Development to enhance  academic performance in schools, as unity yields better results. Where there is immense support schools performance soars,” he said.

He therefore pleaded with FNBB Foundation to adopt the school.

FNB Palapye Branch Manager Mr Lucky Bogopa said bringing dignity and amenities to learners in rural areas could contribute to improved academic performance.

“First National Bank Botswana Foundation has taken it upon itself to contribute one per cent of its profits towards the Botswana education sector,” he said.

Mr Bogopa said the FNBB Foundation was committed to promoting and improving education in remote areas. He said they believed that equipped with the right tools learners in re,ote  areas were equally capable as their peers in urban areas.

Mr Bogopa cited that the back packs were design in a way that the panel would get charged by the sun and the panel will then power upwhile being carried, to enable the learners to use for night or early morning studies.

When receiving the gifts, on behalf of learners, the school head Ms Chandada Ipeleng expressed her appreciation towards First National Bank Botswana Foundation saying the donation would make a difference in the students’ academic performance.

“Mokgenene village does not have electricity and  the sgenerator provided for the school is only used from 6pm to 10pm which is not enough for students to study anytime they want,” she said. ENDS
