All eyes on Tebogo today

21 Aug 2024

The 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo will yet again take on a stellar field with 100m bronze medallist Fred Kerley of the USA for top honours in the Diamond League men’s 200m event to be held in Lausanne, Switzerland today.

The two sprinters had competed against each other before in the men’s 100m at the Paris Olympics and will test their mettle again, given that Noah Lyles will not be able to participate in the event.

Tebogo recently outsmarted his fellow competitors and clinched a gold medal in 200m, the first for Botswana and Africa at the Olympics.

Botswana’s ‘golden boy’ recent form and the good bend execution in 200m final might see him separating himself from the rest in Lausanne.

Before the Olympics, Tebogo won 200m at the Monaco Diamond League in July with a time of 19.87.

Other athletes expected to line up with Tebogo, include Erriyon Knighton, Joseph Fahnbulleh and Alexander Ogando, among others, who were part of the 200m final in Paris.

On Sunday, Tebogo will again face eight other athletes in the men’s 200m race at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.

Expected in the track is Kenneth Bednarek of the US.

The Sunday start list will also feature Knighton who took fourth position in Paris, as well as Fahnbulleh and Ogando.

Collen Kebinatshipi, who was part of the Botswana men’s 4x400m relay team that won silver medal at the Olympics, will also take track in the men’s 400m today.

The Diamond League comprises 15 of the most prestigious events in global track and field, which athletes compete for in a bid to qualify for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on September 13. Ends
