Preparations for the construction of Mathathane-Plaatjan road are ongoing.
This was said by Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry, Honourable Beauty Manake answering a parliamentary question on behalf of transport and public works minister on August 15.
Honourable Manake said the consultancy services for the engineering designs for the construction of Mathathane-Plaatjan Road were completed in June while the environmental impact assessment was completed in March.
She said the tender management process was ongoing while the invitation to tender notice was published in the Government Gazette on August 2 and was floating until September 19.
“After procurement and land acquisition negotiations are anticipated to be completed in the shortest possible time, construction of the road should commence in February next year and expected to take 18 months, a completion date of December 2026 followed by a 12-month defects liability period,” she said.
She added that once complete, the road was envisioned to boost the tourism, agriculture and manufacturing industries in the SPEDU region.
Member of Parliament for Bobonong, Mr Taolo Lucas had asked the minister to give a detailed report on the commencement and construction of Mathathane-Plaatjan road, stating commencement and completion dates. Ends
