DPSM directive not applicable to police prisons

21 Aug 2024

Botswana Police Service and Botswana Prisons Service officers are rank structured and therefore implementation of the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) directive on delayed progression on the civilian staff cadre is not applicable to them.

This was said by Minister of Defence and Security, Honourable Kagiso Mmusi in Parliament on August 16.

However, Honourable Mmusi told Parliament that five members of the civilian staff were affected, two from Botswana Police Service and three from Botswana Prisons Service and were paid in August and May last year respectively.

The minister was responding to a question from Member of Parliament for Maun East, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile who wanted an update on the progress of implementing the DPSM directive on payments of delayed progression at the ministry.

Mr Kekgonegile also wanted to know if Botswana police and prison services were affected by the implementation of the directive, and if so, how many were affected per institution and at which rank. He also wanted to know how many had been paid so far. Ends
