Plans Underway To Reconstruct Dibete Police

20 Aug 2024

Reconstruction of Dibete police station building has been included in the twelfth National Development Plan (NDP 12) for consideration.

This was said by Minister of Defence and Security, Honourable Kagiso Mmusi answering a question in Parliament on Friday.

Minister Mmusi explained that the building was in a bad state of disrepair due to structural defects as a result of its settling or unstable foundation.

“The building has been assessed and found to be structurally defective and has been recommended for demolition. Following the recommendation, the ministry has included the reconstruction of the building in the NDP12 for consideration,”the Minister said.

He added that plans were in place to reconstruct the building in NDP 12 and funds permitting, the construction was expected to commence in the second year of the national development plan.

However, Minister Mmusi said closure of the building had not had any impact on the service provision to the public as they continued to provide all services from the old police building.

“Moreover, the productivity and morale of the officers have not been affected in anyway,” he said.

The Minister further explained that government built the police station considering the needs of the community and welfare of officers stationed at Dibete, adding however, the poor construction methodologies adopted had led to the current state of the building.

Member of Parliament for Ngami, Mr Caterpillar Hikuama had asked the minister to update Parliament on the state of the long closed Dibete police building.

Mr Hikuama also wanted the minister to further state what the ministry was doing to ensure that the building was functional and serving its initial purpose.

He further wanted to know if there were any specific plans and time set for the renovation of the building and how the closure of the building had impacted service provision to the public.ENDS
