Motivation key to academic sports excellence

15 Aug 2024

Motivation plays a vital role in uplifting and encouraging both academic and sports performances among students and athletes.

This sentiment was echoed by the Member of Parliament for Mogoditshane and Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport, and Culture, Honorable Tumiso Rakgare, during  the top achievers awarding ceremony at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary School on Tuesday.

In his address, Mr Rakgare emphasised that the donations made during the event would have a significant impact on motivating the top achievers.
He expressed gratitude to the FNBB Foundation for its contributions toward recognising outstanding students and its engagement in public-private partnerships.

“The government cannot do everything alone, especially in times of financial constraints that affect funding for various projects,” Rakgare stated. He praised the private sector for its essential support and thanked FNBB for its commitment to various community initiatives.

Mr Rakgare encouraged students to approach their studies with seriousness, reminding them that education was a stepping stone to future professions.

He underlined the importance of motivation in driving students to exceed expectations, pledging the donation of laptops to the top achievers to further aid their academic pursuits.

“We are diligently working to revive school sports, which are crucial for nurturing talent,” he said, highlighting the previous lack of funding for these activities.

The MP announced that a budget of P55 million has been requested to support school sports, expressing optimism about securing funding to enable participation in these programs.

Representing FNBB Botswana, Mogoditshane Branch Manager, Mr Moses Matlala affirmed the foundation’s belief in education as the key to a brighter future. He expressed pleasure at witnessing the dedication and achievements of the students and reiterated FNBB’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities, particularly in rural areas.

“I am delighted that today, as the FNBB Foundation, we not only present a donation but also provide essential resources that could significantly enhance academic performance,” Mr Matlala said.

He urged the recipients to use these tools to empower their academic journeys and beyond.

Among the top achievers recognised was the 2023 BGCSE star Tumelo Gaailelwe, who excelled with 6A*, 2As, and a B, and is currently pursuing A Levels at Maruapula School. Gaailelwe expressed her gratitude, stating that the laptop would be invaluable for her studies and research, allowing her to access tutorials and complete assignments more efficiently.

She thanked both the Member of Parliament and the FNBB Foundation for the generous gestures that have addressed her educational needs.

For his part,  Kweneng Regional Operations Director Myson Mbuso reiterated the importance of motivation in driving students to achieve more, extending thanks to FNBB and Minister Rakgare for their role in recognising and rewarding academic excellence. ENDS
