Tebogo to keep running 100m - coach
15 Aug 2024
Following his impressive splits in the 4x400m relay final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, many held the view that Letsile Tebogo should ditch taking part in 100m race and focus on 200 and 400m races respectively.
This will not be, he will continue to double 100 and 200metre races according to his coach, Kebonyemodisa Mosimanyane.
He said in an interview that for Tebogo to finish sixth in the 100m final at the Olympics did not classify him a bad runner in the category.
In fact, he said Tebogo had a good record and more gold medals in 100m.
In 2021, he said Tebogo won the Kenya World Athletics Championships 100m gold medal and a bronze in 200m.
Mosimanyane said Tebogo went on to win the same medals again at the World Junior Championship held in Cali.
“Again, we all know how he performed in 100m shattering his World Junior Record, which still stands,” he said and explained that 100m needed adequate preparation.
“For you to get the 100m medal, everything should be perfect, and it takes a lot of work.
The time we lost 21 days due to a situation that was beyond our control was the time we knew that 100m was now out of reach,” said Mosimanyane.
He said the occurance happened at a crucial stage when they were supposed to add some important components to get the race right.
“Once we knew that we cannot achieve our objective, we targeted 200m,” Mosimanyane said and further stated that Tebogo would assist in 400m relay if available.
He said Tebogo would not run in the 400m but rather continue with his normal events, and would help in the relays, if available. Ends
