Morwaeng commends teachers for hard work

Kgari Sechele Senior Secondary School teachers have been commended for their hard work, which is said to have improved the academic performance of the school.

Speaking during the school’s annual Gala dinner on Saturday, Minister for State President and also Member of Parliament for Molepolole South constituency,

Honourable Kabo Morwaeng said Kgari Sechele’s academic performance had been dwindling over the years.

He praised Kweneng regional operations director, Mr Steve Bothasitse together with Kgari Sechele school head, Ms Mosah Kebobone for turning the wheel of performance in the school and taking the school back to its glory days.

Mr Morwaeng said ever since the duo’s arrival in 2020 when the school was lingering at the bottom of academic performance strata, the idea to revive performance took shape and actually bore fruit the following year.

He said through an initiative dubbed ‘Operation Maduo’, the academic performance of schools in the region began to take shape and Kgari Sechele was not left behind.

Minister Morwaeng added that the senior school got position 20 in 2021, followed by position 16 in 2022 and increased their performance to position three in 2023.

“This shows that the initiative actually brought in better performance. I commend both teachers and students for the hard work they have put in to bring change to the school performance.”

Minister Morwaeng said he would continue to support the school so that it continued to excel.

He further said they should make sure they work hard to even get position one.

Mr Morwaeng thanked the sponsors for their continued support saying education needed concerted efforts from all stakeholders for the betterment of results, adding that he would donate photocopying machine to each school in his constituency.

He promised that teachers who performed exceptionally well would be taken to Durban, South Africa on August 23 as reward for their performance through the help of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development.

The guest speaker, director of Banamile Attorneys, Mr Aobakwe Banamile said education remained an integral part of national development for an educated nation eases development and economic transformation.

He said the dinner had presented a rare opportunity to demonstrate their shared commitment to excellence, creativity and spirit of educational collaboration.

Mr Banamile said the theme; Motivation: Key to Excellence, had been rightly chosen as motivation played a key role in enhancing and encouraging teachers to do their level best in improving academic excellence.

Attorney Banamile, who is also a speech writer said the dinner served as a commitment from the sponsors and the captains of the industry. He applauded them for their contribution towards education.

He said education throve on an environment of collaboration where various stakeholders came together to share resources, expertise and vision.

Mr Banamile said collaboration with esteemed partners helped one achieve milestones.

He said he took part in the last award ceremony where he awarded both teachers and pupils who had done well in English Language and Literature as he himself was once an English teacher.

He added that good leaders played a central role in playing work place motivation in both eccentric and intrinsic manner.

Mr Banamile applauded Kgari Sechele school head for making sure the school did well, which led to it being rewarded for good work behaviour so that others could learn from it.

He encouraged the school management to aim higher and, imploring them to leave their comfort zones and challenge themselves to do better.

Mr Banamile donated P5 000 towards awarding good performance and excellence.

In her welcoming remarks, Ms Kebobone said by hosting annual gala dinner were setting a positive mind for excellence as the Setswana proverb says ‘mosele wa pula o epiwa go sale gale’.

Ms Kebobone said through the dinner they were motivate teachers to give it their all.

The School head said their intention was to get position one at the nationals, which she admitted could only be possible if they worked together and produce desired results.

The sponsors included among others; Gaborone University College of Law, Letshego, Minergy, Botswana Examinations Council, Vincent Travel and Tours, Botho University, Imperial College and I11 Farmers Association.ENDS
