Mascom Batanani walk is a significant event that not only promotes physical fitness and wellness but also raises awareness on pertinent societal issues, says Francistown Mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo.

He said this at the Mascom Batanani walk stakeholders’ dinner in Francistown on August 9.

He said the walk also highlighted the importance of unity and solidarity within the communities.

Mr Radisigo said the Francistown and Mascom Batanani’s first walk journey, which dated back to 2019, had enabled different organisations to implement impactful projects in the city.

He cited the Jubilee Psychiatric ward as one of the beneficiaries as proceeds from the walk were used to refurbish the facility.

Also, he said the Francistown Centre for the Deaf was capacitated to attend to the educational needs of students more efficiently.

Cybersmart Botswana founder, Mr David Moepeng, said in today’s digital age, children were growing up in a world vastly different from the past.

He explained that while the Internet provided incredible opportunities, it also posed significant risks.

“Online predators, cyber scams, cyber bullying, and misinformation are just a few of the challenges our young people face,” he added.

Mr Moepeng said equipping children with the knowledge and tools to navigate the digital landscape safely was not just an option but a necessity.

At Cybersmart Botswana, he said they believed in a proactive approach to digital safety.

Mr Moepeng further stated that through interactive workshops , engaging educational materials and community outreach , Cybersmart Botswana thrived to create an environment where the youth of Botswana can thrive online without fear.

"Our mission is to transform awareness into action, fostering responsible digital citizens, who are not only aware of the dangers but also equipped to protect themselves and others," he said.

The other initiative, he said include, Cybersmart girls, which empowered adolescent girls to stay safe online, Cybersmart students, tailored for students, and Cybersmart parents, designed for parents.

Meanwhile, Mascom Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Ms Boipelo Matenge expressed gratitude to Her Excellency, First Lady, Ms Jane Masisi for gracing the Mascom Batanani walk.

Ms Matenge said the whole purpose of the walk was to help improve the lives of the community.
